Many males are available now 〰️
The following paragraph may actually be the most important paragraph for you and your family to read before you make a decision to adopt one of our beagle puppies.
First and foremost, please read through our website for information that will help you and your family make an educated decision about adopting one of our beagle puppies. This is not a decision to make on the spur of the moment or impulsively. Having a beagle is a tremendous responsibility from the very beginning. It does require logistical planning, a planned training program and a collective effort of every family member to successfully bring a beagle into any new environment. It is true that they can be very stubborn. It is also true that they are one of the most difficult canines to potty-train. Our puppies are raised and nurtured in a rural environment. Our puppies are genetically pre-disposed to hunt. Our puppies are not back-bred, line-bred or cross-bred with other breeds. Our puppies are naturally smaller in size and stature because of the smaller size of the unrelated sires and dams that we have in our family. But this does not mean they are “easier” to manage or handle than a standard sized beagle. In fact, having a genetically diverse beagle means you will have to really work for your goals together. Having genetically diverse puppies means they are going to be happy and healthy with great dispositions! But, this also means that our puppies will require tons of daily interaction, tons of play and exercise and a training regimen that incorporates feeding, rewards, commands and potty-training all up front and from the beginning! Remember that beagles WANT to be challenged. This means they will need a daily schedule, training and lots of love! The biggest mistake new beagle owners make is not starting early with training, and, in some cases allowing bad habits to go un-checked, like chewing on furniture, or going potty in the house. It’s much easier to start early in the puppy’s life than it is to overcome bad habits later on—especially with a beagle. Knowing this, planning ahead, you should plan to be physically present, essentially all the time, for the first 90 days of life with you. Second, because of our puppies unrelated blood lines and registrations, they DO NOT meet the criteria to be formally AKC or UKC registered. We have intentionally mated our pairings in a deliberate attempt to procreate a naturally smaller stature beagle, that is to say a "pocket beagle," within an approximate weight range at adulthood of 19-26lbs. Our average size, (13.25 inches, or less), at the shoulder, means our beagles can not be formally registered to show.
Hours of Operation: We conduct Visitation, Selection and Adoption times by appointment, well in advance. We like to ensure that we do not double-up on multiple families here at once, and each family gets 100% of our attention while you are here! In order for you and your family to visit us in person, you must have undergone our pre-qualification interview. The most important reason for this is to ensure you and your family do not unknowingly bring transferable bacteria here to our puppies. In order to mitigate this as best we can, and to ensure you and your family are truly ready for one of our high-energy beagle pups, we have developed 10 individual questions for your family that we will want to discuss with you at length before we move forward with your appointment. Moving forward you and your family should know that we do not conduct general visitation during the work week. Selection and Adoption are routinely done by appointment in the evenings M-F, all day Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. All of this will be discussed at the conclusion of your pre-qualification interview.
Your Pre-qualification Interview: Taking on a new family member, especially a new beagle puppy is a huge commitment. The first 90-days in your home, your puppy will require 24-hour care and supervision. A dog is not a toy, a status symbol or something that requires very little interaction. A beagle requires constant, consistent training from all family members from the very beginning. As adults they will need an immense amount of physical activity and interaction. They do best with a routine commensurate with regular feedings, love and care. A healthy, genetically diverse beagle can live as long as 15-17 years of quality life! Knowing us personally as your breeder, knowing our sires and dams is very important for you to make an informed decision to pursue an adoption with us. It is equally important for us to get to know you as best we can before we move forward with your adoption. This is why our actual adoption process is not conducted digitally. Before you make a plan to come and visit us in person, it is very important for us to make direct contact with you and your family over the phone. We welcome your initial contact through the contact tab on the website, but ultimately we will want to talk with you personally and develop a relationship with you and your family moving forward.
Your Family Interview and “THE BIG TEN” Questions upfront!
(1) Are you over the age of 18, and have you and all the adults in your home read through our website in it’s entirety—especially the re-homing information tab, and are all the adults residing in the home and responsible for the home 100% supportive and enthusiastic about getting a beagle puppy?
(2) Have you ever had a beagle before and/or do you have one now or another canine in your home?
(3) What is your daily schedule like and how do you intend to care for your puppy for the first 90 days of life and beyond?
(4) Please describe, in great detail, the life of the puppy for the first six months of life, and what will that be like for the puppy?
(5) Are you gainfully employed to the extent that you can afford an unscheduled vet appointment?
(6) Describe in great detail your home, if you own, rent or lease and the condition of your yard, your fence and your relationship with your neighbors?
(7) Do you live under and HOA or subdivision by-law or covenant that prevents canine and/or hound ownership specifically?
(8) Have you had any incidence of parvo in your home in the last five years that has not been neutralized with a medical grade cleaning? NOTE: If you just moved into your home and you are unsure, consult your contract to determine if your home was professionally cleaned to a medical grade standard; (this means steam cleaning your carpets and sanitizing all horizontal surfaces in your home with medical-grade disinfectant.). If you are unsure, and/or you know there were canines in the home before your occupancy, you may want to have your home cleaned to that standard before making the decision to adopt a puppy.
(9) Are you willing to sign a legally binding contract in the interests of your puppy? This contract prohibits you from ever euthanizing the puppy arbitrarily. [This means you must provide required medical care for your puppy, or return your puppy to us for a full refund and let us care for the puppy]. This contract prohibits you or any member of your family from giving up the puppy for adoption to another individual, or turning the puppy over to a shelter without contacting us and/or returning the puppy to us for a full refund of your adoption fee.
(10) Adopting one of our genetically diverse beagle puppies is potentially a 15-17 year commitment. Making this commitment is accepting and planning on extensive training, routine exercise, tons of love and kisses, repeated forgiveness and physical and mental support for your beagle as a family member. Are you and your family collectively, 100% committed to the entire life of your beagle and the support of this dog for its entire lifespan?
If you answer "yes" to our first two questions, your interview can be as short as ten minutes! We welcome calls on speaker phone with all the adults in the home, and you can call or text us in advance to set up a good time for your entire family to participate! We will be glad to answer all of your questions about raising a beagle in a healthy, loving environment! Once you have read through our website and are ready to move forward with the adoption process, please give us a call at your convenience to complete your interview. Once you are qualified to adopt one, (or more), of our puppies, it’s simply a matter of voice-calling Maura to arrange your reservation and your appointment to come and visit us in person!
Re-homing fees: effective March 1, 2022, 100% Fully-refundable deposits are required by gender. We accept personal check, PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, or cash, it is your choice. Digital transaction fees associated with the transfer of funds will be added to the final adoption fee. Deposit on a female is $350.00 and males are $250.00 towards final adoption fee. We believe any higher pricing drives our dogs out of reach of most working families. However, in the case of a rare color or size of a puppy, the final adoption fee may be adjusted. With that being said, our prices for re-homing fees (Texas sales tax will be added) on both males and females are:
$1000.00 and $1100.00 males and females respectively for standard tri-colored puppies.
$1350 for chocolates (brown and white only), both genders;
$1500 for small ticked standard tri’s, both genders;
TBD for blue beagles, lemons, reds, and very small ticked standard tri’s, both genders.
Deposits are fully transferable to another puppy in the litter, if that puppy is still available, and also fully transferable to another litter and from one gender to another. Deposits are fully refundable if the adoption does not take place. If it is your desire to transfer your deposit from a male to a female (if available), that will require an increase in your deposit. Deposits on both genders are encouraged if it is too early for a family to make a decision on a male or female. If you end up choosing only one puppy, your additional deposit is credited towards your final adoption fee. If the puppy or puppies that are made available to you are not a 100% match made in heaven, you can always defer your selection to a follow-on litter! If you have changes in your status and can not select when a puppy becomes available, you can always defer your selection at any time, and you retain your time/date position on our reservation list. We are not going to keep your money if you decide to withdraw your intention to adopt one of our puppies, or you choose to withdraw your intent altogether. All received deposits will be applied to the final adoption fee!
Waiting list: We want the selection process to be a beautiful, stress-free experience for all of our potential extended families. For this reason, we maintain two off-line waiting lists, male and female. Our wait time for puppies can fluctuate based on three factors: number of litters conceived, ratio of males to females born, and number of awaiting reservations for each gender. At the time you place your reservation, you will be informed of your projected wait time. Our “projected litters” tab shows projected pairings in their expected order. We list expected due dates there. We try to work with families as much as possible. We know adding a new family member is very important. We know that circumstances change and having a family is a fluid environment. We try to accommodate those changes and this often results in cancellations, (refunded deposits), or deferments for selection to a later date. This means your wait time for a puppy can be substantially sooner. When changes impact our reservation list, we keep you advised of your potential selection window as soon as possible.
Puppy pictures are loaded to their respective litter tabs, identified by colored collars. After the 4th week of life, families will make their choices and a "reserved" notice will be added against the puppies gallery photo. During the adoption/nursing/ growth period, we make every effort to keep our internet site up to date and as current as possible. Maura provides video vignettes and zoom visitation as requested for our long-distance families that are unable to conduct multiple visitations in-person. Facebook is also a great media platform for us to post pictures immediately. We encourage you and your family to follow us on Facebook to see the most current pictures of our puppies and the antics of all of our beagles! Simply “search” in FB “Quail Ridge Pocket Beagles” and click “follow.” Our posts will immediately be added to your FB feed! We invite families for unlimited visitation with their puppy by appointment after the 4th week of life for you and your family to bond with your chosen puppy!
We are excited to have interest in our puppies before birth. In an effort to reduce disappointment, we created two waiting lists: one for males, and the other for females. These reservation lists are maintained using a simple Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that is easily modified and updated daily. Because we are a genetically diverse breeder, we have no way of knowing gender before birth. Sometimes families have to “pass” on a selection opportunity due to personal conflicts, but wish to remain on the list for a future puppy. We simply defer that choice upon request. The original date you contacted us is maintained and simply shifted on our list automatically. This is the main reason why we recommend families get on the waiting list, things can change, and puppies can become available sooner than originally planned. One of the reasons we refund or defer selection deposits is because we do not want any family to feel compelled to adopt a puppy from a given litter unless they are 100% certain this is their new family member. Additionally, we do not keep deposits for any reason whatsoever if your adoption does not come to fruition. If you find a puppy elsewhere sooner, or things change, or you find a rescue—it doesn’t matter what the reason is. We will wish you God speed and refund your deposit upon request immediately with no questions asked.
What we want is our puppies to go to their forever homes with absolute confidence. This is a wonderful experience that we are part of, and we want to keep it that way for everyone. We do not, and will not have a dissatisfied adoptive family. We encourage multiple visits during the infancy and weaning process. You will be introduced to the mother and the father at our home. There is no limit to the number of family members you want to involve in this event! When you love what you do, when this is your passion, it no longer becomes work. We love to open our home to all of our potential extended family members throughout the adoption process. We have some great tips that have proven to make the transition process a beautiful and stress-free experience for your puppy and your family. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. Your time here with us will hopefully answer all of your questions, but not to worry, our cell phones are always on, and we will always respond to you if we don’t answer, now in the immediate, and for the future of your puppy as it matures and grows into it’s own!
We like to think about your experience getting a puppy from us as 3-fold, visitation, selection and adoption. This process can take a period of days, weeks or months, or all be accomplished in the same day in just a matter of hours! In order to accomplish any one component of our process, you must be pre-qualified first through your phone interview. Question #8 is a very real concern for us as a breeder. We must know and discuss your potential exposure to parvo prior to your arrival to our ranch. Visitation is conducted year-round by appointment. We are a transparent beagle breeder. Visitation can simply be a tour of our facility. You will get to see how we maintain and care for all of our beagles. Your time with us can be visitation and selection of your actual puppy and adoption all in the same day. Puppy selection is often the very first time you will meet your puppy. This is usually about the fourth week of life. This the time when your puppy and your family will pick each other to be together for, potentially, 15-18 years of life. Remember that your puppy is a hound. They are “scent-driven” animals by nature. When you come to Quail Ridge to select your puppy it is very important that you arrive as “natural” as possible, without wearing perfumes, cologne or distracting body scents that may inhibit the bonding process between you and your potential new family member. It is very important for all families to know that your choices may affect other families in the sequence of events surrounding puppy selection. It is also very important that all families are aware that our selection process often involves multiple members of a family, some coming from different directions, even out of state by car or by plane to meet at Quail Ridge. Many times this occurs on weekends, so that families can be together during this very important decision. So it follows that we may have actually scheduled the entire litter for selection on a given weekend. PLEASE know that it is imperative that you and your family make every effort to keep your assigned time slot for selection, so that others in line will be able to make their choices in sequence. Your visitation date is determined by the birth date of the litter. We make every effort to inform you and your family well in advance of your appointment window. We will work with you and your schedule. If there is any issue with being at your assigned time frame, please let us know immediately so that we can notify other families in the line-up.
For the protection of your puppy at adoption we will sign your contract and require you to do the same. You will be furnished a copy of your puppy’s contract as well as your puppy’s certified medical record, accomplished and signed by a licensed veterinary doctor. You will get a photographically depicted family tree showing you your puppies lineage! You will also receive a complimentary 30-day supply of puppy dog food to get your puppy off on the right paws! It is advisable that you consider this on your adoption day: This is a very important day, filled with great satisfaction and immense joy! We tell our families, the time to do other errands, or make unnecesary unplanned stops on the way home—this is not that day. You have one mission: to get your puppy home, safe and sound. Puppies may be a little scared that first day, as this is all new to them. But they are still very fast and agile. For this reason we ask that you come prepared for puppy clean-ups in the car on the way home. Try to PLAN YOUR TRIP HOME with the idea that the FEWEST stops on the way home will substantially reduce the risks associated with travelling with a small puppy. Double containment, having a dog crate in the car, locked and secure when the car doors are opened, this is just part of planning ahead. Stopping at a rest stop, taking your puppy to any area marked “pets only,” or to go to a pet store, these are actually the most dangerous places to take a puppy before their sixth month of life. If you plan on getting home safe, you will—and your puppy will be thriving with your family immediately!
A copy of our written contract with our 2-year unconditional money-back guarantee does require your signature, as well as our own. This contract prohibits you from ever turning your Quail Ridge beagle over to a shelter or another individual without first giving us the option to buy the dog back for the full adoption fee. The goal with this contract is to prevent any of our precious puppies from ever ending up in a shelter. A puppy should not be adopted under this premise, that if it gets difficult or life changes, you can return the puppy. You certainly can—but understand this; returning a puppy is VERY hard on the puppy, and should not be taken lightly. If you are anticipating life changes in the immediate, it may be best to wait to adopt a puppy until you are settled and your life becomes a routine. Our contract will be furnished to you upon pick up of your puppy with the balance due on the puppy to be paid in cash or pre-paid digitally. Additionally, we furnish every family with a certified vet's physical examination and complete medical record, along with a documented history of shots already administered and any and all de-wormings that have taken place during your puppy's growth period here with their Mother. This medical record is signed by a licensed medical veterinary doctor, (which ever one at our local clinic examines your puppy specifically), and can be transcribed into any veterinary clinic record across the globe.
Shipping: WE DO NOT SHIP OUR ANIMALS by land or by air. WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR PUPPIES FOR ANY PRICE OR FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER. We feel this is a cruel thing to do to a puppy. There is far too much risk associated with shipping at this time of life because puppies are not fully immunized at the eighth week of life. Therefore, you MUST be willing to pick up your puppy IN PERSON at our home in May, Texas 76857. If it is your intent to fly, please purchase an under-seat fully ventilated carry-on that facilitates air flow and meets your airline's security requirements. WE WILL NOT RELEASE OUR PUPPIES UNTIL THEY ARE FULLY WEANED AND THEIR FIRST SHOTS ADMINISTERED. If the puppy is a gift for a child or a family by way of a special date, we DO NOT release our puppies early for any reason whatsoever. You are more than welcome to visit our ranch at any time in person during the weaning process with or without a deposit being left on one of our puppies. We conduct visitation on Saturdays and Sundays by appointment.
Returns: Nobody wants to be in a position to return a puppy. We understand that not everyone can handle a beagle. We know that life throws us all very difficult challenges. Things you read that you think you understand, things you thought through, they don’t always work out. Please reach out to us immediately if you are not able to care for your puppy properly, or you have a life conflict that does allow for continued care.
*NOTE: If it does become necessary to return your puppy to us for any reason whatsoever, you are required to bring the puppy back to us at our ranch. You must bring ALL up-to-date medical records for the puppy physically, in-hand, with you. We will not issue your refund until the complete medical record for the puppy is in our possession. If you are not up to date with vaccinations, and we have to start over with the puppy, the amount and costs for those immunizations will be deducted from your return amount which will be issued to you after the puppy’s immunizations have been brought up to date with our vet. It is very important that a full disclosure of the puppy’s life with you be explained so that we know how to help your puppy when they come back to us. We will need to know the routine they have had with you. We will need to know what dewormings have been administered, heart worm preventative and any medical concerns for the puppy prior to bringing your puppy back to us so that we can make arrangements for the puppy specifically. Any items that the puppy has that will make the transition easier on them will be beneficial. If they have a bed, special toy(s), bedding, a crate or kennel they’ve been playing with or using, this will make them feel as good as possible during this traumatic time for them. We will pair them up with a friend as close in age as possible for them to play with. They will usually stay with us in the house during this difficult time for however long they need to. If you have changed their diet, (their food that we gave you at adoption), we ask that you bring their food with you, at least a week’s worth of that food, that the puppy is currently on. *NOTE: We require the puppy’s complete, (hard-copy), medical records, (in your hand at the time of the return), rabies tag and chip records, (if any), when you bring the puppy back to us. There is no judgement here. We know that if it comes to this difficult decision, you are already there. We are here to help your puppy and ensure they thrive with us or another family as soon as practical. Your refund will be immediate and given to you personally or sent digitally as you request as long as your puppy is up-to-date with their immunizations and you have the complete medical record for your puppy.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call (254) 368-7399.
