Is your family ready for a beagle?
The most important attribute for any perspective family is that all members of your family are committed to the process of finding the right beagle that fits everyone’s expectations. It is very important to do your homework when considering the active, loving type of dog like a beagle. Beagles are short haired, with little dander. They are not a dog that is typically found to generate severe allergic reactions in humans. But, the time to find out that your child is severely allergic to dog dander is not after you have already made a beagle part of your family! We encourage prospective families to read up on the beagle breed to know what you can expect. Beagles need to run, and this is no less true for a Pocket Beagle. Just because they are smaller than the average beagle, certainly does not diminish their level of curiosity or their need for regular exercise! If you are living in a community that requires your dog be secure, know that a beagle, if given half a chance, will dig, tunnel or jump over most obstacles to get to what they believe they are supposed to be hunting! It is, therefore, very important that your yard be secure; and your fence be emplaced long before your adoption is realized! Beagles are highly intelligent and intuitive. They are a “hands-on” breed that do require physical contact and love. They will gladly give this kind of affection in return! They need to be challenged and exercised regularly, and provided a regular, predictable feeding routine. Beagles are not typically “free-feeding” dogs, and therefore will need daily care. Obesity in beagles is often the result of over-feeding. Obesity in any life form is inherently unhealthy. So, it’s important that you know beforehand that beagles require an active lifestyle!
Finding the perfect Pocket Beagle for your family:
Why are “Pocket Beagles” so desirable? Beagles are traditionally smaller dogs, but no less aggressive hunters, and are very stout, strong, muscular dogs that can, and do hunt very well. Because of their wonderful disposition, eagerness to please, love and play, coupled with their inherent strength, they are an ideal dog for a family with children. Beagles are tough, but they are also small enough not to intimidate a young child. They can take small children’s inadvertent tugs and hugs with grace. In fact, Beagles enjoy running, chasing and playing with toys, especially with a playmate! They are, of course, consistently considered one of the top ten family dogs to own, spanning every survey and publication within the canine community. We encourage multiple visits during the selection process. You will be introduced to the mother and father of the litter you are considering, and you will be provided a linage chart showing exactly where your dog originated genetically. Before you take possession of your puppy you will be provided a written contract with a money-back, 100% unconditional 2-year guarantee, a written, documented Veterinary record, generated by a licensed Veterinary clinic with blood work testing completed, first worming and set of shots annotated. This is not a minimum that we aspire to at Quail Ridge, this is the basic information any new adoptive family should receive when considering a new family member in a canine. This is a huge, very important step in adopting a new dog into your life to be part of your family. We hope and trust that you will compare the standards we have set forth and find the perfect Pocket Beagle for your family.
